Dr Binoy Barman
Educator, researcher, writer and translator
Dr. Binoy Barman (Binoy Chandra Barman) teaches English at Daffodil International University in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Currently he is Associate Professor of the Department of English. where he has been the Head for about six years. He achieved his PhD from the University of Dhaka for his thesis “Analysis of Bangla Sentence with Transformational Generative Grammar” and MPhil degree for his thesis “Trends in Modern Semantics: Problems and Principles of Theorisation”. He completed his MA from the Department of English, Dhaka University, in 1993.
He joined Daffodil International University (DIU) in January 2008. He taught a couple of years in Bangladesh University, Dhaka, prior to his joining DIU. Earlier he had worked as a journalist in several dailies including New Age and The Independent. He also spent a few years of his career in Scholastica and Oxford International School.
He is an expert in Syntax and Semantics, and takes special interest in ELT, ESP, Grammar and Phonetics. He also has great fascination for literature. He writes literary pieces, particularly in the genre of poetry. So far he has got more than 20 books to his credit, written in English and Bangla. He has also written ten papers in research journals and more than one hundred articles in popular journals. He is a regular contributor to the newspapers and blogs. His column "Last & Least" in Star Campus of the Daily Star was well appreciated.
